Michael Caristo

Michael is a Partner and Founder of Genesis and an experienced investor and advisor. Michael was previously a Partner and member of the Investment Committee at Liverpool Partners, a leading investment and advisory group. Prior to Liverpool, Michael was a senior investment professional at Crescent Capital Partners. During that time he also served as the CEO of SunDoctors (Australia’s largest skin cancer clinic network) growing the business from 8 clinics to Australia's largest skin cancer clinic network at 30 clinics under his watch. Michael represented Crescent as a non-executive director on several of Crescent’s portfolio businesses including Cover-More (ASX: CVO); LifeHealthcare (ASX: LHC) where he led the business’ successful IPO; National Home Doctor Service where he assisted in forming Australia’s largest medical deputising service; and SunDoctors where he was responsible for creating Australia’s largest skin cancer clinic network. He began his career at Bain & Co where he specialised in transaction services.

Michael is a qualified medical doctor, holding a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Honours) from the University of New South Wales. He is also a published scientific author in the field of stem cell research.

Shiv Gupta

Shiv has 10+ years of consulting and private equity experience. Previously he was a Principal at KKR Capstone, the operating partners to leading global private equity firm KKR. There he was responsible for managing performance across GenesisCare, Latitude Financial Services and Laser Clinics Australia. Prior to KKR Capstone, Shiv served as the Head of Strategy for Groupon Australia/NZ and was also a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group. He has also served as a Owner/Director of Newcastle Dental Care.

Shiv holds a Bachelor of Business (Distinction) and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Univeristy of Technology, Sydney.

Yin Shum

Yin Shum

Yin is a Partner and Founder of Genesis and has 13+ years of experience in strategy and private equity. Prior to Genesis, Yin was a senior executive for Cover-More (an ASX200 travel insurer) responsible for group strategy, investor relations and ancillary revenue. Before Cover-More, Yin was part of the investment team at Crescent Capital Partners, one of Australia’s leading mid-market private equity funds (with over $1.6b raised in capital across five funds) and served as a non-executive director on the boards of Breezway Group and National Dental Care.  Earlier in his career, he spent seven years with Bain & Co in Sydney, Amsterdam, Singapore and Shanghai offices and was seconded to the Commonwealth Bank’s Asia Strategy team in Hong Kong and to the International Finance Corporation (the investment arm of the World Bank) based in Chengdu.  He was a regular contributor to Bain’s global knowledge centre and his work has been published in Knowledge@Wharton (the business journal of the Wharton School) and the World Economic Forum.

He holds an MBA from the Wharton School and an MA (International Studies, East Asia) from the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours equivalent) from the University of New South Wales.

Tim Hall

Tim Hall

Tim is a Principal of Genesis and an experienced strategy and investment advisor having worked for both leading strategy consulting and private equity firms. Tim started his career as a strategy consultant based in L.E.K.’s Sydney office. Here he worked across a wide range of industries including mining services, transport, manufacturing and building products before focusing on private equity commercial due diligences. Tim eventually left L.E.K. to join Davidson Trahaire Corpsych, Australia’s leading Employee Assistance Program provider, during the period just after acquisition by the mid-market private equity fund Crescent Capital Partners. At DTC, Tim managed the program office and oversaw the delivery of a large number of strategic initiatives.

He subsequently joined the investment team at Crescent Capital Partners itself where he was involved in numerous due diligences and public listings, and had responsibility for delivery of key projects across the portfolio. Tim’s focus was in the healthcare, education and building products industries, and he was also a non-executive director of the mining services company Groundprobe.

Tim left Crescent in late 2015 to act as a strategic advisor to large corporate and government clients. During this time he helped develop the student retention strategy for one of Australia’s largest online education providers, consulted to the NBN on a major technology implementation and advised an ASX-listed company on a successful acquisition in the employee assistance industry before founding Genesis Advisory.

Tim was originally an engineer and holds a Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry (1st Class Honours) from the University of New South Wales.

Edmund is a Consultant at Genesis Advisory with expertise in customer experience, service & operating models and market entry strategy with a focus on healthcare and insurance sectors. Prior to joining Genesis, Edmund had accumulated 9+ years experience in financial markets as a derivatives trader and quantitative analyst covering equities in the financial services, retail, healthcare, industrials and TMT sectors.

Edmund holds a Masters of Quantitative Finance from the University of Technology, Sydney as well as a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) and a Bachelor of Science (Statistics) from Macquarie University.

Ashton Tay

Ashton was previously an Analyst at Liverpool Partners, a leading specialist investment and advisory group focussing on the small-to-mid market. During his time at Liverpool Partners, Ashton was part of both the advisory and investment teams, executing principal investment transactions and advising on buy- and sell-side transaction for ASX-listed companies.
